Cynthia McKenzie has been drawing and painting for about 10 years, but she has discovered pastels only in the last couple of years after attending classes at the Mairangi Art Centre. She is very enthusiastic about pastels — their freshness, colour range and compatibility with her style.

In New Zealand she is a member of the Depot, Estuary Arts and the Mairangi Art Centre. She has exhibited with these galleries, at the Royal Easter Show, Kumeu Art in the Garden, the Bruce Mason Centre, Fine Arts Academy (Wellington) The Original Art Sale, and the New Zealand Art Sale (Wellington).

In May 2009, she had a very successful solo exhibition of her landscapes at the Small Dog Gallery in Devonport and at the Lake House gallery at Takapuna in July 2010. She was part of a group exhibition with three friends 'Paint Talk' at the Depot in July 2012. In August 2013 she exhibited paintings from her walk on the Camino, the pilgrimage in Spain, titled 'Spanish Steps'.

She is secretary of the NZ Pastel Art Society. She works as a librarian, so pastel painting fills her leisure hours, but it is a passion and a pleasure.
